...the historic house which dates back to medieval times, over
2000 acres of Capability Brown gardens and the purpose-built children’s adventure playground. There’s plenty for everyone and if you’ve already been to Longleat, then Bowood House is the alternative. Bear in mind also that Beechfield House is the luxury hotel near Bowood House.
The house was nothing more than a hunting lodge in medieval times and it wasn’t until 1725 that a grand house was built on the site. The works of historically famous architects Henry Keene and the Adams, both Robert and James, is still here for all to see.
However, it’s the gardens for which Bowood is perhaps most well known. The parkland is magnificent including a formal terrace, a splendid lake part surrounded by woodland and on the other side of which is a temple.
Children love visiting Bowood for its adventure playground. There are high level walkways, very large slides, flume tubes, a fully rigged full size pirate galleon and the famous ‘death slide’. There are also swings and trampolines, a ball pool and a sand pit. Children up to the age of 12 will be thoroughly entertained.
So, if you’re visiting Wiltshire, Bowood House is well worth a day out whether or not you have family with you. Please bear in mind, also, that Beechfield House is the luxury hotel near Bowood House that’s most convenient. We can even accommodate families of five in one bedroom.
Other places to visit in Wiltshire include Bath, Bowood House, Bradford-on-Avon, Calne, Caen Hill Locks, Cheddar Caves, Chippenham, Corsham Court, Devizes, Lacock,
Longleat Safari Park, Stonehenge, The Cotswolds, Wookey Hole
