... because of the manor’s idyllic location by the River Frome in a steep-sided valley.
You can see the Italian effect that so influenced Peto when designing the gardens, terracing being an important feature; 2.5 acres of Italian-style gardens. The cypresses, broad walks, statues and pools create a wonderful Italian oasis in deepest Wiltshire. The original gardens have been fully restored over the years, including the Oriental garden. There are even some of the original plants remaining: the standard Wisteria sinensis; Phillyria latifolia; Buxus sempervirens which also grows in tree form in the woods; Cupressus sempervirens; Hemerocalis citrina, the scented day lily and, in the long grass by the Cloister, naturalised Martagon lilies.
The Peto Garden at Iford Manor is near Beechfield House hotel and guests regularly visit the beautiful gradens.
