...period dramas to gothic horror films. Steven Spielberg has recently been filming War Horse in nearby Castle Combe. The village of Lacock, near Beechfield House, became the village of Cranford in the BBC production of the same name. The village, together with Lacock Abbey, has featured a variety of classic films and costume dramas including Pride and Prejudice, Harry Potter and The Other Boleyn Girl.
Castle Combe, regarded by many as the prettiest village in England, played host to Doctor Doolittle in 1966, and more recently Stardust and The Wolf Man. Pride and Prejudice was filmed at Luckington Court, at Wilton House, which doubled as Pemberley and at Stourhead. Tess of the D'Urbervilles was filmed in nearby Corsham and Stonehenge and the lake at Fonthill Bishop featured in the film Chocolat. Walk Away and I Stumble were filmed in Calne and Chippenham, the streets of Bradford on Avon provided scenes from the Charles Darwin biopic, Creation, North Wiltshire was the location for Lark Rise to Candleford and scenes in Saving Private Ryan were filmed on the Wiltshire Downs.
Not surprisingly, Longleat house and safari park is the location for the BBC's Animal Park.
Not only is Beechfield House hotel near the film locations of Wiltshire but the hotel itself has a film connection…Cary Grant and Richard Burton were once regular guests.
