Bath is a stunning Regency city, still much as it was in Regency times, apart from the traffic, that is! Better to stay at a lovely country hotel nearby and to dip into the pleasures of Bath as the mood takes you.
The whole of Bath is designated a World Heritage Site, rich in Roman and Georgian heritage. Bath sits in valley surrounded by hills and is a magnet for people from all over the world. The Roman’s built the famous baths, one of Europe’s finest ancient monuments, around the country’s only natural hot springs and they’re still much as they were in Roman times. You must ‘take the waters’ in the famous Pump Rooms; though they don’t taste very nice, they’re apparently very good for you.
The famous Royal Crescent is one of the world’s architectural masterpieces, the Circus is similarly splendid and Pulteney Bridge could be in Florence! The city’s attractions were further enhanced when the amazing Thermae Bath Spa opened in 2006.
There’s also an impressive series of festivals throughout the year; Bath is a cultural treasure. Then, of course, there are the shops…
If you’re looking to make the most of a stay in the south west, a beautiful country house hotel near Bath makes so much sense.
