… Hole as a family, a day out at Wookey is always great entertainment.
Apparently, people were living around Wookey 50,000 years ago hunting with stone weapons. Later Iron Age folk lived in the caves. In the Hyena Den, bones of both tropical and ice age animals have been found, including mammoth, bear, rhinoceros, and lion. Hyenas apparently used to hunt around Wookey and some say they drove their prey over the cliff edge.
It was during the Dark Ages that the legend of the Witch of Wookey took hold. Some say she was slain by King Arthur and some say the Abbot of Glastonbury turned her to stone. Whatever happened to her, she’s still there!
Now there’s a valley of dinosaurs where you’ll find over twenty life-size dinosaurs including the all-devouring Tyrannosaurus Rex! There’s also the Mirror Maze, the River Axe Pirates, the Fairy Garden and so much more. The kids will love it.
Wookey Hole is also where British caving was born and in 2004 a caving team reached a depth of over 149 feet setting a new British cave diving record.
Other places to visit in Wiltshire include Bath, Chippenham, The Cotswolds, Lacock, Bradford-on-Avon,
